Valley of Becca (Mecca) in the Psalms

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

Allah, holy and exalted is He, says:

Surely, the first House made for mankind is that at Becca, blessed and a guidance for the worlds

(Surah 3, Ayah 96)

Becca is one of the old names of Mecca, and linguistically it means a place of weeping. That is because it was meant to be a place where the Believers congregate in pilgrimage to weep over their sins and seek forgiveness from Allah Most High. The sacredness of this place has been mentioned in the Zabur, or the Psalms of David:

Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them

who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools

(Psalm 84:5-6, KJV)

Not only does this scripture refer to Becca (Mecca) as a place of blessing where the blessed pass through, but it also alludes to the Zamzam Well.
