Shiite Innovation of Third Shahada in Adhan, Iqama and Tashahhud

وعلى آله والصحابه اجمعين

One of the un-Islamic innovations of the Twelver Shi’a sect is the reading of the so-called “third shahada”:

أشهد أن عليا ولي الله

“I bear witness that Ali is the Wali of Allah.”

in the adhan, iqama and tashahhud of the salat. While this innovation is widespread among the Shi’a, some of their scholars have confessed it is an innovation that has absolutely no basis in Islam. “Ayatullah” Muhammad Husain Najafi a.k.a Dhaku, not only condemned this innovation but exposed its history and challenged his own Shi’a community to prove it from their authentic texts:

عہد رسالت سے لیکر امام زمانہ کی غیبت کبری تک کسی بھی دور میں یہ فقرہ اذان میں نہیں کہا گیا اور نہ ہی کسی ضعیف سے ضعیف معصومی روایت میں اس کا جزو اذان و اقامت ہونا ثابت ہے

“From the time of the Apostle (Muhammad - sall Allahu alayhi wasallam) till the major absence of the Imam az-Zaman, these words were never spoken in the Adhan. Not even in any weak narration from the Ma’sumin is it proven that this is a part of the Adhan and Iqama.” (Islah ur-Rusum p.97):

 

ہمارے علماء و فقہاء تو آج تک اذان و اقامت میں اس شہادت ثالثہ کی جزئت کا جواز رسول و آل رسول کے قول و فعل سے ثابت نہ کر سکے۔

“Till today, our scholars and jurists have been unable to prove this third shahada as a part of the Adhan and Iqama from any saying or action of the Apostle and the Family of the Apostle.” (ibid p.104):

 

بارہ امام اور چودہ معصومین علیہ السلام میں سے کسی ایک بزرگوار کا نماز میں خود شہادت ثالثہ کا پڑھنا یا کسی شخص کو اس کے پڑھنے کا حکم دینا ہماری کسی مستند کتاب اور ہماری کسی معتبر روایت میں مذکور نہیں ہے

“It isn’t mentioned in any of our authentic books or narrations that anyone from the twelve Imams and fourteen Ma’sumin peace be upon them ever read the third shahada in Salat or ordered anyone to read it.” (ibid p.106):
