The idea that divine Revelation and the descent of Angel Gabriel has altogether ceased after the passing away of the most holy Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم was refuted by the great Islamic scholar Ibn Hajr al-Haytami [d. 974 H]:
Yes, the wahi [revelation] that will come to him [Jesus] is real wahi as it occurs in the Hadith of Muslim, and other than it, from an-Nawwas bin Sam’an.
The report ‘there is no wahi after me’ is false. Yes, Gabriel only receives the wahi from Allah through the medium of Israfil as the Ahadith prove. As for the popular idea that Gabriel peace be upon him does not descend to Earth after the death of the Prophet [sall Allahu alaihi wasallam], it is baseless (al-Fatawa al-Hadithiya; pp. 181-182)
