Ibn Umar رضى الله عنه narrates in an authentic Hadith reported by Ibn Majah:
For the one who eats the crow, then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) named it as 'Faasiq' (wicked). I swear by Allah that it (the crow) is not from the pure things.

Indeed the crow is haram to eat because it is an impure bird, which feeds on carrion and filth. However, according to Deobandi mullah Mufti Rashid Ahmad Gongohi, the crow is not only halal, but to eat it entails Thawaab (spiritual reward)!

All those birds are halal which merely eat grains and crop and do not hunt with their claws and do not prey on other animals, like ducks, chickens, crows, doves, pigeons, sparrows, etc.
This Fatwa is regarding Zaagh-e-Ma'rufa (the well-known crow), which is the black crow, not a specific white crow which only feeds on grain. The well-known crow (Zaagh-e-Ma'rufa) feeds on carrion and possesses talons. Furthermore, Molvi Rashid Gangohi was referring to that crow that people regard as Haram and those who eat it as dispraised. So obviously that is not the crow that feeds on grain but the well-known crow that feeds on carrion.
DeleteSee also how in the Hanafi madhhab this kind of crow is considered Halal, even when it is confessed that it feeds on impurity.
