Amin Ahsan Islahi: Quran-Only is Worse than Qadiyanism

 

بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ

Amīn Ahsan Islāhi (1904-1997), a disciple of Hamīd ud-Dīn Farāhi (1863-1930) and belonging to that particular school of thought of exegesis, was among the founders of the Jamā’ati Islāmi, headed by Mawdūdi (1903-1979) from 1941. He was associated with that organization until he resigned in 1958, after developing differences with Mawdūdi. But while he was still a member, Islāhi issued a verdict of kufr against the Qurān-only movement, writing:

بعض لوگ اسلامی شریعت کے اختلافات کا حوالہ دیکر مسلمانوں کو یہ مشورہ دیتے ہیں کہ اس ملک میں اسلامی شریعت کے نفاذ کا تو کوئی امکان نہیں ہے، البتہ قرآن کے اصولوں پر اس ملک میں حکومت قائم کرو۔اگر یہ مشورہ دینے والوں کا مطلب یہ ہےکہ شریعت صرف اتنی ہی ہے جتنی قرآن میں ہے باقی اس کے علاوہ جو کچھ ہے وہ شریعت نہیں ہے تو یہ صریح کفر ہے اور بالکل اسی طرح کا کفر ہے جس طرح کا کفر قادیانیوں کا ہے ، بلکہ کچھ اس سے بھی سخت اور شدید ہے

Some people advise that since there is no possibility of the promulgation of the Islamic sharia, the government of this country [Pakistan] should be formed on the principles laid down in the Quran. If, by this, these people mean that the sharia is confined only to the Quran and that other rules are not sharia, then it is clearly heresy. This heresy is similar to that of the Qadiyanis, in fact, much more serious.

According to Islāhi, the basis for declaring the Qurān-only position to be kufr worse than the alleged kufr of the Qādiyānis is:

قادیانیوں نے رسول اللہ کی خاتمیّت کا انکار کیا ہے اور یہ رسول اللہ کے شارع اور واجب الاطاعت اور واجب الاتّباع ہونے کے منکر ہیں۔ اگر یہ عقیدہ رکھنے والے کچھ افراد مسلمانوں کے اندر موجود ہیں۔ تو ان پر یہ حقیقت واضح رہنی چاہئیے کے ایسے افراد کے لئے امت مسلمہ کے اندر کوئی جگہ نہیں ہے۔

Qadiyanis deny the finality of the Messenger of Allah, whereas these deny the legislative authority and the obligation of obeying and following the Messenger of Allah. If such individuals with this doctrine are present within the Muslims, then they should clearly realize this fact that there is no room for such individuals in the Muslim Ummah (ibid):
