A Mosque is Forever

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

Prayers and Peace be upon you, Seal of the Prophets

Allah, Holy and Exalted is He, says

ِAnd surely the Mosques are for Allah

(Surah 72:18)

And who is more unjust than the one who prevents the remembrance of His Name in the Mosques of Allah and seeks to ruin them?

(Surah 2:114)

Had it not been that Allah checks some of the people by means of others cloisters, churches, synagogues and Mosques wherein the Name of Allah is mentioned much would have been pulled down

(Surah 22:40)

These verses of the Holy Quran establish that the Mosque—the House of Allah—wherein the Name of Allah is mentioned with praise belongs to Allah and it is forbidden to destroy it.

Once an area has been designated, that is made into a waqf to serve as a Mosque that designation and status remains till Judgment Day. This is also made plain in the Hanafi school of jurisprudence:

وَقَالَ أَبُو يُوسُفَ هُوَ مَسْجِدٌ أَبَدًا إلَى قِيَامِ السَّاعَةِ لَا يَعُودُ مِيرَاثًا وَلَا يَجُوزُ نَقْلُهُ وَنَقْلُ مَالِهِ إلَى مَسْجِدٍ آخَرَ سَوَاءٌ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ فِيهِ أَوْ لَا وَهُوَ الْفَتْوَى

Abu Yusuf said: It is a Mosque forever until the establishment of the Hour. It does not revert to being an inheritance, and it is not permissible to move it or transfer its money to another mosque, whether they pray in it or not. This is the fatwa (al-Bahr ul-Raiq Sharh Kanz ul-Daqaiq, v.5, p.421)

It has been reported that Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, narrated that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

تَذْهَبُ الْأَرَضُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‌إِلَّا ‌الْمَسَاجِدَ فَإِنَّهَا تَنْضَمُّ بَعْضُهَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ

The lands will perish on the Day of Resurrection, except for the Mosques, for they will be joined together (al-Mujam al-Awsat lil-Tabarani, v.4, p.214, #4009)

However, the Hadith may be weak as one of its narrators, Asram bin Hawshab al-Hamdani, has been judged a liar. Nevertheless, it is established in the sacred Shariah that every Mosque has its sanctity, and once designated as such it shall remain a Mosque in the sight of Allah until Judgment Day. Thus it is forbidden to demolish or shift a Mosque for any reason.

On the night of August 9, 2025, which was just over a week ago, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad demolished the Madani Masjid in that city, claiming the Mosque was encroaching on “protected greenbelt land”. Yet the Mosque was constructed in 1932, prior to even the existence of Pakistan let alone the designation of that land as protected government property. Apparently, Pakistan’s current Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, is responsible for the authorization of this evil demolition and martyrdom of the Madani Masjid. Mohsin Naqvi belongs to the Shiah sect and so it is not surprising that this unclean dog had no qualms about demolishing a Mosque. It is well known that the Shiah lack any ghayrah for Allah, His Apostle, and the symbols of this Religion. They are a cursed people for their entire religion is cursing the beloved friends of Allah such as the Sahabah, may Allah be pleased with them.

Here I would like to mention a personal anecdote. Some time ago I applied to volunteer at Matsqui Institution, a federal medium-security prison in British Columbia, Canada. There are a number of Muslim inmates in the Institution who are systematically being denied their religious accommodations and spiritual care. The main chaplains there are a Christian and a Sikh, who are biased against Islam and Muslims and actively work to sideline their spiritual needs while working hard for the Christian and Sikh inmates. The mistreatment of Muslim inmates is systemic in the entire Canadian correctional system. A volunteer coordinator who works at that institution is a Shiite, Fatima Zaidi. The Shiah community are known for practicing mutah (temporary marriage) which is thinly veiled prostitution. It comes as no surprise that the women of such a community are shameless and of loose character to put it mildly. Virtually all the women active in the red light district of Lahore are Shiah, and the prostitution conducted there is done in the name of mutah. Fatima Zaidi acted hypocritically by collaborating with those elements that are motivated by anti-Muslim bias in suspending my role as volunteer. Sunni Muslims should never trust the Shiah, they tend to be offspring of mutah (prostitution) and openly collaborate with the enemies of Islam against the interests of our Faith and community.
