Explanation of the Kalimah لا اله الا الله محمد رسول الله

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

والصلاة والسلام على من لا نبي بعدى

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

Prayers of blessings and peace be upon the One after Whom there is no Prophet

لا اله الا الله

محمد رسول الله

There is none worthy of worship except Allah

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah

This is the essence of our Faith, and it means:

  1. There is none worthy of worship and no deity except Allah, the Creator of all that exists. He is the God of Abraham, Moses and all the Prophets after them. He is also known as the Rahman, which is one of His personal names, and He has many attributive names. He is without beginning and end. He sees, hears, knows and has power over all things. He has no partner, or equal, and no one is independent of His control and authority. He has no parent, no sibling and no child, and there is no likeness unto Him. He is exalted and above all the creation, and He is separated from His creation by seventy thousand veils of light. Yet He is near and present. He has many attributes which are eternal and uncreated, such as power, will, knowledge, vision, hearing, glory, mercy, love, speech, etc.

  2. Muhammad, the son of Abdullah, who was born in Mecca, Arabia, is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him! There is no Prophet or Messenger of God after him. He is the greatest creation of Allah. It is incumbent to love him more than any other creation, including one’s own parents and one’s own soul. There is no salvation from Hellfire for anyone who has heard of him but not believed in him as the Messenger of God. The divine law he has brought, of commands and prohibitions, is in effect until Judgment Day, and no manmade law may supercede or abrogate it in the least. He is a mortal human who passed away from this world. But he lives in his grave with a special life that is not of this world. The Angels convey our prayers of blessings and greetings of peace to him. He will intercede for the major sinners of his community at the Resurrection by the authority of Allah.
