Treacherous Muslims and their Ideologies Which Opposed Pakistan

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds

Peace and benedictions upon you, my Master, Apostle of Allah

The establishment of Pakistan on 14 August, 1947, corresponding to Lailat al-Qadr or the 27th of Ramadan, 1366 H was a great blessing of Allah. The Sunni Muslims and our religious leadership in particular struggled for the establishment of Pakistan, despite fierce opposition not only from Hindus and Sikhs but also a section of our own Muslim community who were either foolish or outright hypocritical. It should be noted that those who opposed the establishment of Pakistan from among the Muslim community tended to be non-Sunni, for instance, Wahhabis and Shi’ites. The most notorious Muslim leader within the Indian National Congress who opposed the establishment of Pakistan tooth and nail was Maulana Abul-Kalam Azad, of the so-called Ahle Hadith sect (Wahhabi, ghair muqallid). Opposing the campaign of the Muslim League for the establishment of Pakistan, the Indian nationalists among the Muslim community organized the All India Azad Muslim Conference, held on 27-30 April, 1940. Consider the main component parties who participated in this black conference:

Jami’at Ulama-e-Hind

This is the leading political organization of the Ulama of Deoband. Its leader, Husain Ahmad Madani, was someone fanatically devoted to Indian nationalism. He was an extremely stupid individual, not to mention quite offensive to the eyes. His offspring continue to lead the JUH, such as Arshad Madani and Mahmud Madani. The JUH is strongly affiliated with the Indian National Congress. At the moment they are simply watching in horror and utterly helpless as their vision of a secular India where Muslims are safe and prosperous has been smashed to pieces especially after a decade of the BJP government of Modi. Although predominantly a body of Deobandi Ulama, among the stalwarts of the JUH was the Ahle Hadith scholar Sanaullah Amritsari. Needless to say, the JUH is certainly not representative of the Sunni Muslims, who usually don’t consider Deoband as within the fold of Sunni Islam. I do not wish to enter into a discussion at this point on whether Deoband is within the boundaries of Sunni Islam. At the very least it has to be admitted that they are closer to mainstream Sunni Islam than the other sects such as Shi’ites, Wahhabis, etc. Nevertheless, it is quite telling that the greatest and most intense opposition to the Two Nation Theory and the Pakistan Movement was from the JUH, representing the Ulama of Deoband. In my view, it is a stain on Deoband. Now while the vast majority of the Ulama of Deoband carry this stain, a few among them did support Pakistan such as Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi and Shabbir Ahmad Usmani.

Majlis-e-Ahrar

This was another body of Indian nationalist Muslims, though concentrated in urban Punjab, associated with the Deobandi school of thought and led by the remarkable orator Sayyid Ataullah Shah Bukhari. While they should be appreciated for their struggle against the Qadiani heresy, the politics of Majlis-e-Ahrar demonstrates the stupidity and naivety of the Deobandi political leadership. And like the JUH, one of the main leaders of the Majlis-e-Ahrar was the Ahle Hadith scholar Daud Ghaznawi, demonstrating again the political danger of both these groups that are animated to one extent or the other by Wahhabism.

All India Momin Conference

This was an organization representing the sociopolitical interests of the Momin Ansari community in north India. Considered “Pasmanda” they (wrongly) perceive the so-called elite class of the Muslims known as the Ashraf as their oppressors. In a resolution passed by this party in their Patna Conference, 1940, “the Partition scheme was not only impracticable and unpatriotic but altogether un-Islamic and unnatural, because the geographical position of the different provinces of India and the intermingled population of the Hindus and Muslims are against the proposal and because the two communities have been living together for centuries, and they have many things in common between them.” This is the issue with the so-called political leadership of the Pasmanda Muslim community. It encourages an affinity with the Hindus while exaggerating the division between Muslims on the basis of Ashraf versus Pasmanda. Presently, the treacherous Dr. Faiyaz Ahmad Fyzie, a self-appointed Pasmanda spokesman and activist is notorious for being hosted by anti-Muslim bigots of the Hindutva narrative where he speaks against the interests of the Muslims and condemns our supposed Ashraf leadership. The fact of the matter is that the elite or so-called Ashraf of the Muslim community are our natural leaders in the Indian subcontinent because they are more grounded in their Islamic culture and identity. This is not to say that positions of leadership and influence are excluded for ordinary Indian Muslims whose conversion to Islam is relatively recent in the generational sense. But it is similar to how subsequent to the passing away of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, was elected as his first Caliph because it was argued that the Arabs would only respect the leadership of someone from the elite Quraish clan and not an Ansari local of Medina.

All India Shia Political Conference

This was a party representing the Shi’a of the United Provinces (UP) in particular. The political and religious leadership of the Twelver Shi’a in India has historically been based in Lucknow. Mirza Zafar Husain was the general secretary of this party and played a key role in convening the so-called Azad Muslim Conference, proving that the Shi’a were a major force behind anti-Pakistan sentiments within the broader Muslim community of India. Thus it is a myth that the Twelver Shi’a deserve most of the credit for making Pakistan. While Qa’id-i-A’zam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, may Allah have mercy upon him, was born into a Khoja Isma’ili family (recent converts from Hinduism), he abandoned his family’s sect, even criticizing the Isma’ili Imam known as the Aga Khan. Some claim that the Qa’id converted to Twelver Shi’ism but I am not convinced of this. He stated in his will that his funeral prayers should be led by Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Usmani, and photographs prove he would offer Namaz (Salah) according to the Sunni Hanafi method.

Historically and presently the Twelver Shi’a have been at odds with the sociopolitical interests of the mainstream Sunni Muslims, who comprise the vast majority of the Umma. In the context of the Indian subcontinent, the Twelver Shi’a have been more closely aligned with the Hindus, who also perceive them as less separatist and radical than the Sunnis. Kalbe Jawwad, the senior Twelver cleric in India, is currently quite closely aligned with both Prime Minister Modi and his BJP, and also the bigoted Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath, infamous for his hateful stance against Islam and Muslims.

Khuda’i Khidmatgars

This was the party founded by the traitor Khan Abd-ul-Ghaffar Khan known as “Frontier Gandhi”. He was not only a disciple of the Hindu Gandhi but also closely aligned with the Indian National Congress. Their basic ideology was Pakhtun nationalism, and when the decision to partition India was made in order to make Pakistan these traitors called for the establishment of a third state, namely, Pakhtunistan, and resisted joining the NWFP to Pakistan. The Khuda’i Khidmatgar movement is a plain example of the danger of ethnic nationalism among Muslims and how ethnic nationalists often play the role of Munafiqin, dividing the broader Muslim community and harming our interests, both religious and sociopolitical. Presently, the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) led by the traitor Manzoor Pashteen has practically inherited the black legacy of the Khuda’i Khidmatgars and Khan Abd-ul-Ghaffar Khan.

Krishak Praja Party

Founded by A.K. Fazl-ul-Haq, it was an anti-feudal party that claimed to represent the interests of the peasants of Bengal, especially the Muslim peasants of East Bengal. Its participation in the Azad Muslim Conference dedicated to opposing the establishment of Pakistan demonstrates the unholiness of the union of leftism with ethnic nationalism. It was precisely the sentiments produced by such an unholy union that eventually resulted in the tragic breakup of Pakistan in 1971 and the replacing of East Pakistan with Bangladesh. There can be no doubt about the harms of such ideologies and sentiments to the prosperity and unity of the Muslim Umma, and how the external enemies of Islam easily exploit sentiments of leftism and ethnic nationalism among Muslims to divide and weaken us.

Anjuman-e-Watan, Baluchistan

This was the party, allied with the Indian National Congress, of Abd-us-Samad Khan Achakzai, father of Mehmood Khan Achakzai currently leader of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP), known for its opposition to Pakistan’s military establishment. One now sees the anti-Pakistan roots of all such troublesome political parties and movements that are currently active in Pakistan.

Jami’at Ahle Hadith

This was the organization representing the so-called Ahle Hadith sect, also known as Salafis, in India. They reject the practice of Taqlid or following one of the four recognized law schools within Sunni Islam (the Hanafi school is the predominant one in the Indian subcontinent among Sunni Muslims). Wahhabism is a divisive and destructive ideology which has always harmed the unity and strength of the Umma. Wahhabism is in fact best understood as a form of neo-Kharijism. It should come as no surprise that the Wahhabis were among the fiercest opponents of partition and the establishment of Pakistan.
