Legality of Keeping the Name Abd un-Nabi, Abd ur-Rasul, Abd ul-Mustafa, etc. (Part 3)

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

Regarding the legality in Islam of keeping the name Abd un-Nabi, Abd ur-Rasul, Abd ul-Mustafa, and the like, al-Khatib al-Shirbini (d.977 H) of the Shafi’i school says:

“Naming someone Abd al-Nabi is permissible if the intention is to signify affiliation with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.” (Mughni al-Muhtaj, v.6, p.141, Dar ul-Kutub al-Ilmiya, Beirut)
