Bektashi Pseudo-Sufi Antinomian Cult

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

Certain regions on the periphery of the Muslim World have been more susceptible to heresy. The Balkans is certainly such a region which due to a number of factors, like proximity to Europe and communism, was fertile ground for the proliferation of heresy. The Bektashis of Albania, a totally heretical sect, are preparing for the establishment of a microstate along the lines of the Vatican. Sunni Muslims should be wary of this sect and their planned microstate for both political and theological reasons. The Bektashis are friends of Zionism and are openly hostile to any conservative, orthodox expression of Islam. The Bektashi heresy combines the worst forms of syncretism, antinomianism and universalism. In this they are very similar to their twin sister the Alevis of Turkey. These sects are pseudo-Sufi that have no connection to mainstream, orthodox Sunni Islam. Whether the eponymous founder of this order, Haji Bektash, was personally an antinomian heretic is debated. But there is no doubt that the Bektashi sect itself is antinomian and from among the Zanadiqah, as they do not believe in offering Namaz (Salah), fasting in Ramadan, the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, etc. Nor do they observe any other of the salient strictures of the Shari’ah such as the prohibition of hard drink and the ordinance of veiling. Haji Bektash may have been a majzub, an individual whose mind was in a state of rapture and therefore someone upon whom the Pen is lifted as the Holy Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said:

يُرْفَعُ الْقَلَمُ عَنِ الصَّغِيرِ وَعَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ وَعَنِ النَّائِمِ

The Pen is lifted from the minor, the insane and the sleeper (Hadith)

And like the Batini Isma’ilis, the Bektashis claim there is an inner meaning of prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and alms while discarding the apparent meaning. This is how esotericism gave rise to antinomian and libertine tendencies. And what makes these Zanadiqah like the Bektashis, Druze, and Baha’is so dangerous is their political alignment with international Jewry and Zionism, either as an instrument of the latter or in active collaboration with them.

Additionally, one finds that the Bektashis, like other typical Zanadiqah, are in favor of pluralism. This is often a tactic to ensure safety and tolerance for themselves in places where there is a significant Sunni Muslim presence. Yet we see that when such heretics have the upper hand and exert political dominance they often do not extend that notion of tolerance to the Sunni Muslims. Islam certainly opposes pluralism in a Muslim state and society, where it is Islam that should be dominant and the minority communities in a state of subjugation. Zanadiqah should ideally not have any legal status in an Islamic state, but approached in a way similar to what the Torah commands about the seven nations (Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites).

Pseudo-Sufi cults are easily recognized by their teaching of universalism, the perennial philosophy that all religions and spiritual paths share fundamental truths and should work to unify and harmonize. They tend to be “progressive” on women’s issues, placing no emphasis on veiling or gender segregation but usually condemning those Islamic practices altogether. Advocating for a broader role for women in the public is sadly an innovation that has affected the main body of the Muslim Ummah, and is spreading within it like a tumorous cancer. Islam teaches that women should remain in their homes and minimize their public visibility. In opposition to this teaching we see the spread of Tabarruj that is corrupting the morals of virtually all Muslim societies in the same way it corrupted the West. The more a Muslimah is concealed, out of sight, the nearer she goes to Allah جَلَّ جَلَالَهُ

Another sign of a Pseudo-Sufi cult is its casual disregard for observing the strictures of the Shari’ah and the Sunnah, particularly with regard to music. The Shari’ah prohibits music and calls for the destruction of musical instruments. The pop music of our time depletes the soul of faith, poisons the heart and darkens the mind. Sufism has always been about connecting the Believer with Allah سبحانه وتعالى through plentiful Dhikr and Tasbih. Music distracts the heart from the remembrance of Allah and from love and attachment to the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم

Finally, let me mention that a hallmark of the pseudo-Sufi cults and other heretics is opposition to the socio-political and geopolitical interests of the Muslim Ummah. I discussed this previously with regard to the Bohra community in India. Yet we see this tendency strongly associated with other heretical sects and cults, especially the Bektashis, Alevis, Alawites, Druze, etc. They are not only aligned with Zionism and the so-called State of Israel, but also push for the maintenance and strengthening of the secularist regimes that are currently tyrannizing the Muslims. The Emirates in particular has made it the axis of its foreign policy to defend and spread secularism in the Muslim world. It openly sponsors such pseudo-Sufi cults and other heretical movements that are conducive to such an objective. In this light we see the rise of a new secularist axis in the Arab world composed of the Emirati, Saudi and Egyptian governments. The Emiratis in particular are not even ashamed to make common cause with openly Islamophobic and anti-Muslim elements in Europe and the West.
