The Martyr Mukhayriq Best of the Jews

In the Name of Allah, the Rahman, the Merciful

Blessings and salutations of peace be upon you my Master, Apostle of Allah

Allah Most High says:

And how many a Prophet there has been beside whom fought numerous Ribbis

(Surah 3, Ayah 146)

Among those Ribbis, meaning learned divines, was Mukhayriq bin Nadir

He was a learned Ribbi (Rabbi) and scholar of the Jews from the Bani Tha’labah bin Fityun tribe. The historian Ibn Ishaq says:

He was a learned rabbi and a rich man with a lot of money from palm trees. He knew the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, by his description and what he found in his knowledge, but he was overcome by his affinity for his religion, so he continued on that until the day of Uhud came, and the day of Uhud was on the Sabbath. He said, “O assembly of Jews, by Allah, you know that aiding Muhammad is a right upon you.” They said, “Today is the Sabbath." He said, "There is no Sabbath for you." Then he took his weapon and went out until he came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, at Uhud. He made a covenant with those of his people who were behind him, “If I am killed today, my wealth will go to Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so that he may do with it whatever Allah wills." So when the people fought, he fought until he was killed. So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, as far as I have been informed, “Mukhairiq is the best of Jews”. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took possession of his wealth, so most of the charity of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in Medina came from it (Sirat Ibn Hisham; v.2, p.159)
