According
to the founder of the school of Deoband (Muhammad Qasim Nanotvi), the
souls of the Prophets (peace be upon them) have the exact same
connection with their bodies after death as they did during life:
انبیا
علیہم السلام کی ارواح طیبہ کو بعد مرگ
بھی وہی تعلق اپنے اجساد سے رہتا ہے جو
قبل مرگ تھا یہی وجہ ہے کہ ان کے اجساد مثل
اجساد احیاء پھوٹنے پھٹنے نہیں چنانچہ
احادیث میں موجود ہے اور یہی وجہ کہ ان
ازواج مثل ازواج احیاء اوروں سے نکاح
کرنےکا اختیار نہیں رکھتے اور یہی وجہ
ہے کہ ان کے اموال کو مثل اموال احیاء ان
کے وارث نہیں کرسکتے۔
Translation:
“The souls of the Prophets peace be upon them have the same
relation with their bodies after death which they had before death.
This is the reason that their bodies do not decompose like their
living bodies as is mentioned in the Hadith. And this is the reason
why their wives cannot marry, and why their material wealth cannot be
inherited.”

another page, Qasim Nanotvi claims that in fact the souls of the
Prophets (peace be upon them) never leave their bodies.
