The
Sufi/Hanafi “saint” respected by both Barelwis and Deobandis,
Sultan Bahu (1630-1691) condemned the practice of “Taqlid”
(blind-emulation) in severe terms, saying:
Translation:
“Taqlid is the result of worldliness.”
He
further stated:
Translation:
“The people of Tawhid (Monotheism) are people of guidance,
sufficiency, and truth, whereas the people of Taqlid
(blind-following) are people of worldliness, complaint, and are
Mushrik (polytheistic).”
