Sikhism: "The Moon is a Lamp"

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

والصلاة والسلام على أشرف الأبياء والمرسلين

نبينا محمد وعلى اهل بيته الطيّبين الطاهرين المظلومين

The Moon is not an independent source of light but rather reflects the light of the sun. It is for this reason that Allah Most High in the holy Qur’an never refers to the Moon as a lamp, unlike the Sun:

وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا

And made the Moon therein a light and made the Sun a lamp

(Sura 71:16)
It is quite apt to describe the Sun as being a lamp, since it is an independent source of light, but not to characterize the Moon as a lamp. This is one of the proofs that the holy Qur’an is the inerrant Word of God, unlike the scripture of the religion of Sikhism, the Adi Granth, which describes the Moon as a lamp in three separate verses:
“Upon that cosmic plate of the sky, the sun and the moon are the lamps [Deepak]. The stars and their orbs are the studded pearls.” (p.13) “The sun and the moon are lamps [Deep] of incomparably beautiful light” (p.57) “You Yourself created the earth, and the two lamps [Deevay] of the sun and the moon.” (p.83)
According to Sikhism, the Adi Granth are not merely the enlightened thoughts and expressions of their gurus but is in fact believed to be divine revelation. Yet this is just one of many great errors and shortcomings in the Sikh scripture which is sufficient to reject any idea of its being the Word of God!
