One of
the major scholars of the Mu’tazila, namely, Abbad b. Sulayman al-Saymari (also
al-Daymari) apparently believed that the institution of Nubuwwa (prophecy)
is not terminated, but shall remain as long as this world remains, as the
heresiographer Ibn Abd al-Karim al-Shahrastani noted:
“He also
said that the gift of prophecy is a recompense for [good] deeds, and will
continue to be bestowed as long as the world lasts.” (al-Milal wan-Nihal p.64):
