Shi'a Fatwa: It is Forbidden to Say "Ameen" After Recitation of Fatiha

According to the Twelver Shi'ah, it is forbidden to supplicate to Allah by saying “Ameen” after the recitation of the Fatiha during Salat:

1 – Muhammad b. Ya`qub from `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from `Abdullah b. Mughira from Jamil b. Durraj from Abu `Abdillah (AS).  He said: When you are behind an imam and he has recited al-Hamd, and finished its recitation, then you say "al-Hamdu lillaahi rabbi 'l-`aalameen", and do not say "ameen."

Muhammad b. al-Hasan by his isnad from Muhammad b. Ya`qub likewise.

2 – And by his isnad from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from Hammad b. `Isa from Mu`awiya b. Wahb.  He said: I said to Abu `Abdillah (AS): I say “ameen” when the imam said “ghayri ‘l-maghDoobi `alayhim wa la ‘D-Daalleen”.  He said: They are the Jews and the Christians.  And he did not respond regarding this.

3 – And from him from Muhammad b. Sinan from Ibn Muskan from Muhammad al-Halabi.  He said: I asked Abu `Abdillah (AS): Do I say “ameen” when I have finished from the Fatiha of the Book?  He said: No.

4 – And the hadith of Zurara has preceded in (the section of) the method of salat from Abu Ja`far (AS), (that) he said: And when you have finished from your qira’at do not say “ameen”.  So if you want, you say “al-Hamdu lillaahi rabbi ‘l-`aalameen”.

5 – And from him from Ibn Abi `Umayr from Jamil.  He said: I asked Abu `Abdillah (AS) about the saying of the people in the congregational salat when the Fatiha of the Book is recited: ameen.  He said: How very good it is.  And lower the voice with it.

6 – al-Fadl b. al-Hasan at-Tabrisi in Majma` al-Bayan from Fudayl b. Yasar from Abu `Abdillah (AS).  He said: When you have recited al-Fatiha and finished from its qira’at, then say “al-Hamdu lillaahi rabbi ‘l-`aalameen”.
